Safeguarding

** Safeguarding Officers **
Here at Ysgol y Llys we take the safeguarding of pupils and others seriously. We follow the national guidance and the Safeguarding policy is updated and reviewed regularly.
The Headteacher is the senior School Safeguarding Officer. In his absence any concern should be forwarded to either Mr Rhys Griffith, Mrs Sophia Rose, Mrs Ffion P Davies, Mrs Emma Robertshaw or Mrs Sian Jones.
Every member of staff has received safeguarding training on a yearly basis, with the senior safeguarding officers receiving further training to fulfil their role. Every member of staff understands which steps to take if a concern is raised or disclosed.
Looked After Pupils
Through close co-operation with outside agencies and the Local Authority the additional care pupils receive is effective in school. Mr Rhys G Griffith, Headteacher and Mrs Emma Robertshaw are responsible to ensure the support they receive is effective to promote their achievement. Regular meetings are held to ensure support and help to the pupils and their carers
It is ensured that children who need additional educational help are given special attention by the class teacher and additional support depending on their needs e.g. different work in the task. In addition to this the Additional Learning Needs Assistant works under the leadership of the class teacher. The Assistant supports children who have Additional Learning Needs weekly either within the class or in pairs/small groups outside. Parents can see the Special Needs policy and discuss their children's teaching plans at any time. Please see the parent’s Special Educational Needs information sheet.
Site Safety
We have a secure site here at Ysgol y Llys. All visitors are required to sign in electronically in the main school reception. We have secure fencing around all perimeter boundary of the school field and drive and internally we have electronic, fob access to main school building.
We follow the County’s Health and Safety policy to ensure a high level of health and safety to staff, pupils and visitors, with a healthy and safe environment throughout the school. Health and Safety is discussed in every Governors’ meeting. We are covered under Denbighshire’s Insurance for accidents on and off site. Staff are on yard duty during playtime, dinnertime and before and after school.
Fire drills are carried out regularly. First Aid boxes are located around the school. Information regarding the functional and fire procedures are available from school. Accidents are recorded in accident books and if there is any doubt regarding the pupil after the accident, we follow the school’s procedures on contacting parents.
CCTV cameras are located around the school which record activity constantly. All external doors are locked during the day with entry via a fob on all other doors. Site inspections are carried out regularly. The school Governors are included in these inspections.
We have a separate pathway up the school drive for pedestrians. A congregational area was also established down by the school gate to ensure parent/pupil safety. Also the school gates are kept closed during school hours and the only door that is available to visitors is the main door. A new drop off point for parents is now in operation which will ease traffic problems.
